Evelyn Van Orden, President    Approximately 30 people attended, including Jerri's husband and Kim's twin babies – a record turnout for this event!!!
A. Approval of Minutes    Marsha Stoddard, Secretary
        1. Minutes of the November 2 General Meeting were emailed to active members, posted on the website, and a hardcopy was available for review at the meeting. They were approved.
    B. Treasurer's Report    Cindy Vogel, Treasurer
        1. Cindy reported that the balance in our treasury is $815.24 (plus interest).
Empty Bowls Fundraiser Report   Cathy Wacker
        1. Cathy Wacker reported that the Empty Bowls fundraiser was held on Saturday, November 12 from 4:30-8:00pm at CVUMC, the church where we meet. All guild members were invited and many attended. For a $15 donation, attendees received a handmade bowl and various soups and breads donated by local restaurants and bakeries. There was great live music.
        2. Cathy reported that the church raised $7000 for their 3 charities: Friends In Deed House, Bailey Human Care Center at Tujunga UMB, and Christians Concerned for Burma.
        3. Cathy distributed bowls that she personally selected to members who donated money and could not attend the event.
    D. Holiday Potluck Party    Evelyn Van Orden, Coordinator
        1. Everyone brought 
a potluck dish and a wrapped white-elephant gift.
        2. Nine raffle prizes were donated by Judy Gregory, Cindy Vogel, Mary Kaye Busalacchi, and Carol Deutsch (Evelyn Van Orden's student). Thanks to all of you for donating such wonderful prizes! Raffle tickets were sold for $1 each, 6 for $5, and 12 for $10. Total proceeds of $225 were donated to the church (CVUMC) as thanks for the use of their rooms for our meetings. Thanks to Judy Gregory and Cindy Vogel for coordinating and conducting this successful event!

        4. Donations of holiday theme baby hats for local hospitals, washable hats and scarves for the homeless men at Olga’s church, and chemo caps for Knots of Love were brought. Thanks for your generosity!
        5. As usual, we had a great time with the White Elephant gift exchange!

2011 Philanthropy Summary
Marsha Stoddard, Secretary

Afghans for Afghanistan: Judy Gregory collected knitted numerous wool items including child's socks, sweaters, and afghans. She also collected wool afghan square/rectangles/strips and assembled them into afghans. She mailed all items to this organization which delivers them to Afghanistan.

Operation Gratitude: Marsha Stoddard delivered 34 hats and 22 scarves to Van Nuys in December which were added to boxes with many other items and delivered to our troops during the holidays.

Knots of Love: Jerri Thomson collected and delivered approximately 125 hats to this organization which sends hats to male and female chemo patients nationwide. If individuals want to have their total hat count sent to them for tax purposes, please send a SASE to Knots of Love, c/o Christine Fabiani, 2973 Harbor Blvd., #822, Costa Mesa, CA 92626; questions to

Christ Child Society: Betty Molinaro collected 59 baby blankets, 88 baby hats, 24 baby sweaters, and 3 pair of booties that were combined with other items and donated to new mothers in local hospitals.

L.A. County USC Hospital NICU: Kimberly Smith collected many, many preemie items, including 83 holiday themed baby hats and 2 pairs of booties that were collected at the Potluck Party (see photo in the Minutes above).

Huntington Hospital NICU: Betty Molinaro collected 39 preemie hats, 2 preemie sweaters, 8 blankets, and 2 pairs of booties to donate in honor and memory of Lynne Emery, a beloved member of our guild who passed away in March. Lynne collect and delivered many items to this hospital.

Hats and Scarves for the Homeless: Olga Martinez collected 66 hats and 79 scarves that she gave to her church to distribute to the homeless at their monthly dinner in December.

Pasadena Museum of History Donation: A donation of $100 was sent to this organization in honor and memory of Lynne Emery, a beloved member of our guild who passed away in March. Lynne was very active in this organization and spoke about it at our guild meetings.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser: Cathy Wacker coordinated JCK's participation in this fundraiser held in November at the Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church where we hold our monthly meetings. Some members attended and others who could not attend bought hand made soup bowls. The event raised $7800 for three local charities: Friends in Deed House, Bailey Human Care Center at Tujunga UMB, and Christians Concerned for Burma.

Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church Donation: A raffle was held at the Potluck Party in December to raise money for this church where we have held our monthly meetings for several years. A total of $225 was raised and donated to the church. The pastor sent a very nice note of thanks.

We also donated handmade knit and crochet items to several other miscellaneous charities throughout the year.

All of this is amazing and so generous of your time and money and talents.
