Minutes: 7:30pm : Holiday Greetings Evelyn Van Orden, President 18 members were present, plus 3 family guests, plus 1 visitor. A. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Judy reported that Afghans for Afghans announced the total items for the Fall collection season: more than 5,000 items for youth ages 7-14 for World Church Service, more than 1,100 hats for International Orphan Care, and more than 1,000 pairs of mittens for Mines-to-Mittens Roots of Peace. 2. Marsha Stoddard received an email from Marion Green, who wrote that Operation Gratitude sent 1000 gift boxes to our troops in November, and since its inception in 2003, they have sent over 400,000 boxes! Our group contributed 22 hats and 22 scarves this year. Marion s email also included many thank you notes from the troops. If you would like to read this email, please contact Marsha for details. 3. Betty Molinaro took 70 donations from JCK to the Christ Child Society. Included were 36 hats, 16 blankets, 9 booties, 4 sweaters, 3 mittens, 1 vest, and 1 poncho.
4. Kimberly Smith and Lynne Emery collected 63 red and green hats for from Lynnes friend and JCK for sending to our charities this season. Lynne will distribute 12 hats to Arcadia Methodist Hospital , 13 hats to Huntington Memorial, and 12 larger hats to Brothers Helper. Kimberly took 26 hats for L. A. County Hospital Neonatal unit, where she is a nurse. 5. Michelle Tang collected 23 pairs of mittens from our group during November and December to send to her friend in New York , who will distribute them to homeless shelters in Buffalo , NY . Michelle reports that her friend collected over 500 pairs of mittens, enough for all the children who came to their Christmas party! 6. Thanks to all of you who contributed so many beautiful things to our charities this month and all year. What a good feeling! 7:45pm: White Elephant Gift Exchange 8:50 pm: Meeting Adjourned
