1. Marsha reminded us that the JCK membership list, which she periodically emails to everyone, is only for the use of JCK members for knitting/crochet use. 2 . Michelle Tang told us that she has an email virus which causes fraudulent messages to be generated from her address. If we receive such a message, we should delete it without opening the link. She always puts something in her subject line and something in the body of the message. She apologized for our inconvenience. 3 . Michelle Tang introduced her friend Michelle Connolly, who is also friends with Cindy Vogel and Heather Martin. She came just to visit and present her business, selling hats online at www.indeemitch.com . She is also looking for anyone who would like to knit hats for her business, as she is expecting her first baby any day and will not be able to do as much. If you are interested, you can call her at 818-919-9713. 4 . Judy Gregory announced that one of her shops, Twisted Sisters in San Diego , needs test knitters. If you are interested, you can call Judy at 818-353-5840. 5 . Judy is also attending a trunk show at Evas in Thousand Oaks on Saturday, October 9. Anyone interested in riding with her should be at her house at 12:30 . 6 . Evelyn brought yarn that was donated by Carol Deutsch, one of her students.
7 . Judy told us that there are 2 websites which list all the yarn shops in our area: Knitmap and Needletravel: www.knitmap.com and www.needletravel.com 8 . Several members mentioned looking up Jogless joins a technique in knitting in the round that prevents an uneven join after each round. Judy provided us with several sites plus other information you might find of interest: techknitting.blogspot.com/2007/01/jogless- stripes.html www.socknitters.com/kickback/joglessjog.htm www.jlyarnworks.blogspot.com/2009/02/tutorial-jogless-join_22.html
Judy goes on to say: The Jogless join was originally done by Meg Swansen, the daughter of the magical Elizabeth Zimmerman www.google.com/images?hl=en&noj=1&q=elizabeth+zimmerman Here is a link for some cool photos. Everyone recognizes the Baby Surprise jacket and other wonderful designs. I have the Elizabeth Zimmerman Green Sweater pattern that you can see if you scroll down the page here: www.schoolhousepress.com/patterns.htm . 9 . Jerri Thomson and several other members talked about a discount card available at Jo-Anns for 10% off everything for non-profit organizations like JCK. E. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Jerri Thomson announced that Knots of Love (KOL) has a new website and a new email format. She reminded us that the Knots of Love relay to raise money continues through October 15. We should bring the hats we have made and any money we have collected to the November meeting, and Jerry and Mary Kaye Busalacchi will take the hats and contributions to the KOL location. The hats and money will go to KOL, and the money will be used for mailing expenses. The lists of required yarns as well as patterns are listed on the KOL website: www.knots-of-love.org . Jerri would like us to use a donation slip, available at the website, and put it and our item in a plastic baggie. She will continue to collect and periodically deliver our hats to KOL. For more information or questions, contact Jerri at 818-790-8440 or jqthomson@sbcglobal.net. 2. Judy announced that Afghans for Afghanistan will take any size wool socks. These can fit easily in other, larger packages that they send. The yarn should be at least 75% wool. 3. Betty Molinaro and Carol Parker took the things we had donated to Christ Child Society this month. They were very appreciative. They hold their monthly meetings at a church in South Pasadena and pack up layettes for poor families, unwed mothers, etc. They always include a handmade item. If we have small bottles of lotion or shampoo or small bars of soap, they would be happy for the donation. 4. Jerri Thomson reported that a total of 44 hats were collected and donated to Knots of Love, along with $25 plus more being collected. There will be an update and final tally at the November meeting. 5. Some of the charities for which we collect donations regularly all year are: L.A. County USC Medical Center Childrens Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) (tiny sweaters, blankets, booties, hats) Christ Child Society (baby hats, booties, sweaters, blankets) Brothers Helpers (any items of clothing or blankets) Afghans for Afghanistan (wool sweaters and socks for kids and various-sized afghans) Knots of Love (chemo caps using specified yarn) Operation Gratitude (scarves and hats for our troops specified scarf lengths and washable dark colors) Betty Molinaro and Jerri Nicol collect items for Christ Child, and Jerri also collects for Brothers Helpers.
