1. Cathy Wacker thanked Judy Valenzuela and Jerri Thomson for the yummy treats.
2. Lynne Emery is still not feeling well but hopes to be back soon. She signed up to go on our field trip in August. 3. Evelyn announced that the L.A. County Fair runs from September 5 until October 4. We can buy tickets online for less money. Those who wish to submit something for the Needle Arts competition need to fill out an entry form by July 9. The entries need to be shipped or hand delivered by July 14 and picked up by October 6. There are classes available. The website contains entry, admission, and parking fees, class information, entry forms, and lots more information: http://www.lacountyfair.com/2009 . 4. Evelyn and Judy will deliver our entry of the baby blanket designed and knitted by some of our members several years ago. Those who participated were Jerri Nicol, Diane Larsen, Evelyn Van Orden, Barbara Bell (no longer a member), and Marsha Stoddard. 5. Kimberly Smith has arranged Saturday, August 22, at 10:00 for us to go and visit her Neonatal Unit at L.A. County USC Medical Center Childrens Hospital. Evelyn passed around a sign-up sheet. Carpools will be arranged, due to limited parking. Judy suggested that we concentrate on making items this month that can be taken and donated to the unit during the visit. They need booties, tube socks, hats, and blankets, all in preemie or newborn size. The items should be acrylic. 6. Evelyn announced that in 2010 the Knit for the Cure will be held at Dodger Stadium instead of at the Rose Bowl, as it has been in previous years. Michelle Bernal may not even be involved in organizing it this year. Judy G. says that there are others in the area, and that we will still be able to contribute our pink things. 7. Marsha brought a partially-completed adult sweater, donated by someone who no longer wished to finish it. Olga Martinez will take it and make something with it. 8. Jerri Thomson showed us a blanket she made using Tunisian Crochet. A special hook is required. It makes a very dense weave. D. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Judy informed us that Kraemer Yarn Company, one of her employers, offers on their website free patterns to download: http://www.kraemeryarns.com . 2. Cathy Wacker took some more of her beautiful knitted things to Learning Works, a center in Pasadena where young unwed mothers can go to complete their schooling. Her church, the Crescenta Valley Methodist Church (where we have our meetings) has taken the Learning Works on as a project and sends them various supplies and gifts throughout the year. We can contribute by giving our things to Cathy. 3. Michelle Tang is teaching 7-year-old Rebecca to knit. Rebecca had done her first 2 rows of maybe a scarf. She informed us that she is knitting it for charity. Good luck, Rebecca! E . Show and Share Members 8:45 pm: Meeting Adjourned
