A. Minutes Marsha Stoddard 1. Minutes of the June meeting were posted on the website and a hardcopy was available for review. They were approved. B. Treasurer's Report Marsha Stoddard for J erri Nicol 1. Jerri was out of town but reported to Marsha that the balance in our treasury is $932.57
C. Announcements Members 1. Evelyn announced that Jerri Thomson recently had cataract surgery and is at home recuperating. 2. Cathy Wacker thanked Sue Dietel and Anna Boghosian for the yummy treats. D. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Judy recently received a large box of wool and cotton/acrylic yarn from Kraemer. She brought some of it for those members who wish to knit for our charities. 2. Children in Common has a winter project of wool mittens for toddler through teens. Infant/toddler mittens up to age 2 dont need thumbs. The mittens will be collected by Judy through the summer. They should be made from at least 75% wool. 3. Afghans for Afghanistan is now requesting wool sweaters for age 7 14. They should be made for warmth, with full-length sleeves and long bodies. The children like bright colors. The sweaters should not be felted. Right now, no baby things are needed. 4. Marion Green reminded us about Operation Gratitude, which collects and distributes care packages for our troops to lift their morale. They request dark-colored handmade scarves and hats. Acrylic is fine for making them. We can include a personal note, if desired. The next collection deadline for these items is November. Their website is: http://opgratitude.com. 5. Several members requested to see the pattern book again for mitten/scarf/hat patterns. E . Show and Share Members F. Meeting Place Discussion Evelyn Van Orden, Marsha Stoddard 1. Evelyn reported that JCK has used the Sparr Heights Community Center for almost 4 years. However, due to budget cuts at the City of Glendale , we would now have to pay $80 per hour for the use of the room. 2. Cathy Wacker investigated the use of her church facility. We can use a room there for free. The facility has a big parking lot in back. The problem with the church site is that we must go up 18 stairs to get to the room. 3. Marsha looked into Mount View Retirement Center , which has a big room upstairs, but there is an elevator. They were very excited at the prospect of a knitting group there that their residents might join. The problem at this location is street parking at a long distance from the building. 4. Discussion was held regarding these 2 possibilities and any other options. The local libraries all close by 8:00 , plus at some there is a charge. The general consensus seemed to be that our group does not want to spend our money for a location, nor do we want to have to fundraise. Further, most members felt that climbing stairs would be easier than walking a long distance, especially in the dark or rain. 5. We voted to try Cathys church for a few months, starting in August. If the stairs are too difficult, then we can still try Mount View . 6. The new location will be at Crescenta Valley Methodist Church , 2700 Montrose Ave , in Montrose. It is not too far from Sparr Heights . An email notice will be sent sometime during the month. 7:50pm: Meeting Adjourned
