    B. Thanks for Treats    Cathy Wacker, Hospitality
        1. Cathy reported that she and Betty Molinaro brought the yummy treats.
    C. Treasurer's Report    Evelyn Van Orden, Acting Treasurer
        1. Evelyn reported that the balance in our treasury is still $914.24 (plus interest).
    D. Announcements    Members
        1. Mary Kaye Busalacchi announced that her daughter Kimberly Smith, our member who is a baby nurse, delivered her twins on April 26! Their names are Lucy and Jack, and Mary Kaye shared her pictures with us. Lucy weighed about 2.5 lbs, Jack weighed 1.5 lbs, and they both were 13" long. They are gaining weight and are doing well. Kimberly is home and is also ok. The babies will be in the NICU at Good Samaritan until June or July, so Kim goes back and forth daily. If any of you would be willing to donate blood and have type A positive, please contact Kimberly about it. So much blood is taken daily for testing, and since Jack is so little, he has trouble replacing it.We will be doing the baby shower for Kimberly at our next meeting, Weds, June 1
        2. Evelyn introduced our 2 members, Bonnie James, who found our group from the website and at Needle in a Haystack, and Pat Schnurbusch, who found us online.
        3. Cathy Wacker’s church was offered the yarn stash of some family member who passed away. The 10 boxes of yarn were dropped off at Needle in a Haystack. Much of the stash consisted of small balls of leftover yarn, but Judy and Evelyn picked it all up, sorted it, took the small balls to a thrift shop and brought a table–full of Red Heart-type yarn. Most of the yarn was taken by our members. Thank you to Judy and Evelyn for all this work!
        4. Betty Molinaro, Carol Parker, and Lee McIntyre went to the memorial celebration for Lynne Emery. Betty said it was very nice and that they were amazed at how many things Lynne did in her life. We discussed possibilities for a donation in Lynne’s honor, and Marsha will find out from Lynne’s son what activities the Tom Hamilton Scholarship Fund engages in. It was moved, seconded, and passed that we donate $100 to a fund in memory of Lynne. Evelyn will write a letter to accompany the check.
        5. Janice Ogata shared that she and her small group are knitting coral and other sea life out of plastic bags to add to a display that is touring the country to raise awareness of non-biodegradable items. This display will be at the Pasadena Art Center for 2 months.
        6. Evelyn announced that Needle in a Haystack has Blue Sky cotton on sale until May 15. It is beautiful and soft, for chemo caps.
        7. Becky’s mom, a liver cancer patient, is stable and enjoying a break in her chemo treatments. She is feeling much better during the break.
    E. Philanthropy    Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
        1. Judy announced that Afghans for Afghanistan is collecting wool things for a May shipment. This group continues to need items for children aged 7–16, such as vests, hats, sweaters, socks, and blankets, and the items should be wool only. They mainly need socks and sweaters. We can also make wool afghan blocks of any size, using worsted weight wool yarn in a firm (not lacey) pattern. Judy prefers garter stitch. She collects them and then puts them together to make afghans. Thank you, Judy, for your dedication to this organization and for sending all our things.
        2. Betty Molinaro reminded us that Christ Child Society always takes our baby things: blankets, hats, booties, sweaters. She will collect them each month. This group makes layettes for needy mothers, and they like to include a handmade item.
        3. Jerri Thomson collects chemo caps for Knots of Love, an organization that sends the caps to cancer centers, now even in England. As summer approaches, they are focusing on cotton caps for coolness. Please look for soft cotton, not the rough Sugar n’ Cream type. Their website lists several cotton yarns. They also want to send caps to veteran’s hospitals and will collect for that until September, when they hope to donate 5,000 caps. They have a website which lists the specific yarns they require us to use for the caps.
        4. Irene, our new member, is collecting 2 or 4-holed buttons to send to women in Africa. They make things to sell using these buttons, and it gives them a livelihood.        5. Marsha collects dark-colored hats and scarves all year for Operation Gratitude, a group that sends boxes to our troops in December. There are limits to the scarf size.
        5. Kimberly Smith works as a nurse at the L.A. County USC Medical Center NICU. She delivers our preemie things – hats, booties, blankets, sweaters. The blankets can be small, to cover the isolettes.

    F. Kimberly Smith Baby Shower
        1. Kimberly Smith, our member who is a baby nurse, delivered her twins on April 26! Their names are Lucy and Jack, and their proud grandma, Mary Kaye Busalacchi, shared her pictures. Lucy weighed about 2.5 lbs, Jack weighed 1.5 lbs, and they both were 13" long. They are gaining weight and doing well. Kimberly is home and is also ok. The babies will be in the NICU at Good Samaritan until June or July, so Kim goes back and forth daily. If any of you would be willing to donate blood and have type A positive, please contact Kimberly about it. So much blood is taken daily for testing, and since Jack is so little, he has trouble replacing it.
        2. It wa
s decided to hold our baby shower for Kim at the June 1 meeting.
        3. Judy Gregory is planning several games and prizes. Cathy Wacker will bring decorations. Mary Kaye will bring tablecloths. Diane Larsen will bring a festive cake. Deborah Kac will bring plates/cups, utensils/etc. Sandra Canfield will bring bottles of water, and Jerri Thomson will bring iced tea. If you bring a gift, please put a bow on it. Cathy and Evelyn will arrive early to decorate and set up, and they could use help from other members.
     G. Yarn Raffle
        1. Evelyn received $100 worth of yarn from Kraemer Yarns for patterns that she submitted. She donated it for prizes for a raffle. For every item we brought to donate to a charity we got a raffle ticket. Four members won and got beautiful Kraemer yarn. Thank you very much, Evelyn!
