1. Evelyn and all of us welcomed Lynne Emery back we have missed you, Lynne! 2. Evelyn reported that Needle in a Haystack is having a customer appreciation month. Customers can take their handmade items to the shop by Friday, May 7, and they will be on display all month. Those who display things will get a coupon for 20% off a purchase at the shop. Evelyn encouraged us all to go to the shop and look at the beautiful items. 3. During Show and Share, Michelle Tang announced that she had written up her pattern for a ripple baby blanket and submitted it to ravelry.com. Congratulations, Michelle! We can go to ravelry.com and register to be a member. After that we will be able to look at many patterns. Michelles pattern is called Neopolitan Ripple. 4 . Marsha emailed to our members a list of the JCK yarn stash at her house. If any members want items from the stash, please contact Marsha: stoddard@pacbell.net or 818-249-4892. Judy also has a stash of yarn for charity knitting: judy@judykits.com or 818-353-5840. E. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Judy said that Afghans for Afghans is sending fewer shipments now, as these shipments are expensive and dangerous. Judy recently sent them more things, and she continues to store up our donations in case they make a request for items. If you plan to make wool things, they should be at least 75% wool, worsted weight. 2. Jerri Thomson brought patterns and beads for the beaded chemo cap she referred to last month. Also available from her are business-card-sized lists of acceptable yarns for KOL. She announced that, with the coming summer heat, Knots of Love (KOL) would like more chemo caps made from cotton (but not Kitchen Cotton or Sugar n Cream, as these are too rough). These hats should be 7 high, for medium heads, and 8-10 high for large. The circumference should be 22-24. The lists of recommended yarns as well as patterns are listed on the KOL website: www.knots-of-love.org . We can use whatever patterns we like but should stay away from anything lacy. They prefer hats done without seams, using circular needles. Jerri will continue to collect and periodically deliver our hats to KOL. For more information or questions, contact Jerri Thomson , 818-790-8440 or jqthomson@sbcglobal.net. 3. Jerri Nicol, Betty Molinaro, and Lili Horjea went to the Christ Child Society gathering at St. Andrews church in Pasadena and showed 2 of their members how to knit. 4. Cathy Wacker has taken many of her beautiful items, plus the ones other members have donated, to Olive View UCLA Medical Center . They recently held an appreciation dinner for those who have helped out, and Cathy attended. She told us that the group is very grateful for the many donations. 5. Some of our charities for which we collect donations regularly all year are: Christ Child Society (baby hats, booties, sweaters, blankets); Brothers Helpers (any items of clothing or blankets); Afghans for Afghanistan (wool sweaters and socks for kids and various-sized afghans); Knots of Love (chemo caps using specified yarn); Operation Gratitude (scarves and hats for our troops specified scarf lengths). 6. Marsha will continue to collect adult hats and scarves to be donated to Operation Gratitude. The deadline for these items is in early December. The website gives specifics on scarf lengths. They are looking for washable dark colors, usable for either men or women. For questions, contact Marsha 818-249-4892 or stoddard@pacbell.net. F. Scavenger Hunt Judy Gregory, Members 1.
