Minutes:
    7:05 pm: Meeting Called to Order    Evelyn Van Orden, President    13 members and 1 new member were present.
    A. Minutes    Marsha Stoddard
        1. Minutes of the April meeting was posted on the website, and a hard copy was available at the meeting. It was moved, seconded, and passed to approve the minutes as written.
    B. Treasurer's Report    Jerri Nicol
        1. There was no activity in April.
        2. The balance remains at $1153.81.
    C. Announcements     Members
        1. Evelyn introduced new member Lori Hennnecke, a student of hers. Evelyn also said that she heard from Jerri Thomson, who has missed 2 meetings due to illness and being out-of-town, and Thea Orozco, who was in a car accident and had no ride to the meeting. Also, Thea and Jessamy Gloos, another employee of That Yarn Shop as well as a member of JCK, are planning to move to England for schooling.
        3. That Yarn Shop has moved and is currently located on Eagle Rock Blvd, near Colorado Blvd. and across the street from Citibank. There is street parking.
        4. Cathy Wacker donated some preemie blankets, and Lynne delivered them to Huntington Hospital Neo-Natal unit. Cathy read a very nice thank you that she received from the hospital.
        5. Marsha thanked Cathy Wacker and Lynne Emery for the treats and added that a new sign-up sheet is available for the months of July through December.
        6. Lynne Emery reported that member Linda Derderian was diagnosed with bone cancer in December, 2006. It progressed very quickly, and sadly, she passed away April 17, 2007. No services are planned, and her husband John is getting the house ready to sell, after which he will move to Texas near their daughter.
       7. Judy announced that Kraemer Yarn Co. (kraemeryarns.com) is having a design competition, and JCK members are encouraged to submit designs. The prize is yarn for you and your shop.
    D. Philanthropy    Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
        1. Judy reported that she mailed a box to Afghans for Afghanistan. She explained to me that Afghans for Afghans only collects hand-knitted stuff. They then partner with established charity groups to distribute the garments. Different groups distribute things to refugee centers, schools, orphanages, street kids in Kabul etc. They have an on-going partnership with Afghans 4 Tomorrow, but sometimes it's a one time special request like Afghan Mobile Mini Circus. 700 hats went to the Afghan Mobile Mini Circus, an after school program. They travel and teach others about Safety and Nutrition. The Afghans 4 Tomorrow took baby hats, socks and garments to health clinics that had been rebuilt in Wardak province. Women will receive prenatal care, which is largely unavailable in Afghanistan.

    E. New Business
        1. We discussed a way to honor the memory of Linda Derderian. It was moved, seconded, and passed that we donate $100 from our funds to Stitches From the Heart, which is in need of money to cover all the mailings they do of their donated baby items. Evelyn will send a cover letter explaining our donation.
