3. Betty Molinaro reminded us that Christ Child Society always takes our baby things: blankets, hats, booties, sweaters. She will collect them each month. This group makes layettes for needy mothers, and they like to include a handmade item. 4. Jerri Thomson collects chemo caps for Knots of Love, an organization that sends the caps to cancer centers, now even in England. This time she delivered 28 caps from our group plus another group. They also want to send caps to veterans hospitals and will collect for that until September. They have a website which lists the specific yarns they require us to use for the caps. Since the weather is turning warmer, they now suggest Cotton-Ease, which will be cooler for the patients. 5. Irene, our new member, is collecting 2 or 4-holed buttons to send to women in Africa. They make things to sell using these buttons, and it gives them a livelihood.
6. Marsha collects dark-colored hats and scarves all year for Operation Gratitude, a group that sends boxes to our troops in December. There are limits to the scarf size. F. La Caρada Library Display 1. Sue Dietel arranged a display of items made for our various charities in a case at the La Canada Library for the month of February. The library wanted to keep the display up through March, as they have had so much good response from it. 2. Sue returned the display items to the members who made them. 3. Evelyn brought a picture she took of the display for us to see. 4. Recent guild publicity included: (a) 2 newspaper articles in the Glendale News-Press and La Canada Valley Sun in November and December arranged by Sue, written by Evelyn Van Orden and photo by Mark Van Orden of the Charity Challenge Project participants and handmade donations; (b) a display of charity items made by guild members at the Eagle Rock Library in December arranged by Jerri Thomson; and (c) a similar display at the La Canada Library in February-March. All of these events procided excellent publicity for our guild and the charities we support, and prompted several people to join our guild. 5. Thanks to Sue, Jerri, Evelyn, Mark, and to everyone who made items for the Charity Challenge Project and submitted items for the library displays. We should all be proud of how we have represented our guild to local communities. G. Kimberly Smith Baby Shower 1. Member Kimberly Smith is pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl! The babies are due in late June or early July. 2. Evelyn announced that we will have a shower for her at the May meeting. 3. Judy Gregory is planning several games and prizes. Evelyn received $100 in yarn from Kraemer yarns for her patterns, and she is donating it for prizes and raffle items. 4. A raffle will be held for some of the Kraemer yarn. For every item we bring to donate to a charity we will get a raffle ticket. 5. Cathy Wacker will bring tablecloths and decorations. Diane Larsen will bring a festive cake. Deborah Kac will bring plates/cups, utensils/etc. Sandra Canfield will bring bottles of water, and Jerri Thomson will bring iced tea. We should bring any gifts tied up with bows. Cathy and Evelyn will arrive early to decorate and set up, and they could use help from other members.
*** NOTE: Kim is now on bed rest, so her baby shower has been postponed until after the babies are born ***
