    D. Announcements    Members
        1. Judy Gregory reported that Evelyn is sick with a cold, so Judy is filling in. Evelyn, we missed you!   [I missed all of you too! -E]
        2. Kimberly Smith told us that all the preemies at the NICU are doing well right now. The unit was able to prevent a set of triplets from being born way too soon, and the mother is currently still carrying the babies
        3. For our meeting for May 5, please bring magazines to share and trade.

    E. Philanthropy    Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
        1. Judy said that Afghans for Afghans is doing a quick collection of items for kids age 7 – 14. They need vests, sweaters, socks, hats, and afghans. She is storing smaller items to send in future boxes. If you are continuing to make wool things, they should be at least 75% wool, worsted weight.
        2.
Jerri Thomson announced that recently she took 34 chemo caps, including 25 from JCK members, to Knots of Love (KOL). At our meeting, Jerri collected 23 more hats from members! This month that organization donated 1,108 caps to hospitals and cancer treatment centers! Since they began in June, 2007, they have donated 45,186 caps! Jerri will continue to collect and periodically deliver our hats to KOL. These hats should be 7” high, for medium heads, and 8”-10” high for large. The circumference should be 22”-24”. Simply Soft is a good worsted weight yarn to use, and the lists of recommended yarns as well as patterns are listed on the KOL website: www.knots-of-love.org. We can use whatever patterns we like but should stay away from anything lacy. They prefer hats done without seams, using circular needles. Judy indicated that in a conversation with KOL, she learned that any soft yarn will be ok to use, although in the past they have seemed quite adamant that we should only use their recommended yarns. For more information or questions, contact Jerri Thomson, 818-790-8440 or jqthomson@sbcglobal.net.
        3. Betty Molinaro reported that on March 24 she and Jerri Nicol and a few other members went to the Christ Child Society gathering at
St. Andrews church in Pasadena and delivered 18 baby blankets, 9 baby hats, and 2 baby sweaters from our members. The members also sat and knitted with the women there. The next meeting of Christ Child Society will be Wednesday, April 28, from 9:30–11:30. If you are interested in going to knit with them, contact Betty, 818-247-9521.
        4. Some of our charities for which we collect donations regularly all year are: Christ Child Society (baby hats, booties, sweaters, blankets); Brothers Helpers (any items of clothing or blankets); Afghans for Afghanistan (wool sweaters and socks for kids and various-sized afghans); Knots of Love (chemo caps using specified yarn); Operation Gratitude (scarves and hats for our troops – specified scarf lengths).
        5. Marsha will continue to collect adult hats and scarves to be donated to Operation Gratitude. The deadline for these items is in early December. The website gives specifics on scarf lengths. They are looking for washable dark colors, usable for either men or women. For questions, contact Marsha 818-249-4892 or stoddard@pacbell.net.
