Minutes
7:10pm: Call to Order  Jerri Thomson
• 14 members were present.
• 1 new member: Marlene Warschilka, who came to the February 10th Anniversary Meeting and dove right in with her expertise and enthusiasm!

Hospitality Report Sue Dietel, Hospitality
• Sue Dietel was unable to attend the meeting and we missed her.
Irene Rezaie and ? brought snacks, cookes, and some really yummy pastries (apologies if we left someone out).

Secretary's Report Karin Igoyan, Secretary
• There were no formal minutes for the February meeting because it was our 10th Anniversary Party and no business items were discussed.
• Photos of the 10th Anniversary Party were posted for all to enjoy.

Treasurer's Report Evelyn Van Orden for Cindy Vogel, Treasurer
• The balance in our treasury is $713.77 (includes $0.05 interest).
• $25 was spent for the 10th Anniversary cake from Porto's Bakery by Evelyn Van Orden and she was reimbursed.
• $10 was spent for ink and paper for guild flyers by Evelyn Van Orden and she was reimbursed.

Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
• Afghans for Afghanistan: Judy reported that this charity has not posted any needs as of yet, so she sent a box with 49 items to “Wool-Aid”, which is an organization that sends hats, socks, mittens, sweaters, vests and blankets to Afghanistan, Nepal and Mongolia. Judy posted to the Forum on Ravelry.
• Christ Child Society: Jerri Thomson collected items for Christ Child Society on behalf of Sue Dietel.
• Union Station: Jerri brought some gloves to Union Station. This organization accept knitted items from October through February, when the homeless’ needs are the greatest.

• Knots of Love: Jerri took a box of hats recently. Janice Ogata is doing a challenge at her Toastmaster club to get hats.
•
Operation Gratitude: Marsha reminded us that hats and scarves in dark neutral colors are needed. Items are delivered in the Fall, but of course we can knit all year long and either save them till then or give to Marsha for safekeeping.

• Caps for Seamen: Sandra Ogden informed us that any color hats are needed, and scarves are appreciated too.

Granny Squares Lap Blanket Project Jerri Thomson & Marie Benes
• This was the theme and main focus of our meeting this month.
• Jerri Thomson and Marie Benes are leading the charge, and at the February meeting they introduced us to the project and brought yarn and instructions for everyone, encouraged us to get started, demonstrated how to for those of us who are new to the world of crocheting and encouraged us to make some squares at home and  bring them to the March meeting.
• And what happened? The table (BIG pool table) was covered with piles of granny squares! Donna Hovartos alone brought 100 squares!
• Jerri did a presentation of different granny square afghans she had put together, and also showed us a large granny square blanket she had bought for $2.99 at a thrift store(!), all really pretty.
• Our intention and goal is to make lap blankets for nursing home patients. The sizes should be either 3' x 3' = 36 squares, or 3' x 4' = 42 squares. We could also make shawls.
• You can crochet squares with 4 rows and turn them in to Jerri and she will complete the 5th row in a base color and put the squares together, or you can make squares with 5 rows and put them together yourself
.
• J
erri insists this is all so easy and challenged everyone, saying "If I can do it, you can do it!".
•
Marie made a call to JoAnn Fabrics in La Canada, with the result that the store will donate some yarn from their off-site storage "stash". This is really great, so thanks Marie!

Charity Knit & Crochet Day Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
• Judy reported that the Charity Knit & Crochet Day will be Saturday, April 27th at St. Luke's of the Mountains Episcopal Church on Foothill Blvd. in La Crescenta.
• This event will be promoted at Itza Knitterie during Yarn Crawl (described below).
• At the event, there will be a potluck lunch and we will work on the Granny Squares Lap Blankets and other charity knitting projects to be discussed at the April meeting.
• Since it will be two weeks after the Yarn Crawl, we are hoping to get the word out and leave fliers at the participating yarn shops, to get as many people as possible to come.
• We will have tables set up for different activities, charities and demonstrations.
• More information to come about this event when the committees have been formed, ideas discussed and decisions made, so keep an eye out for the April minutes!
• The church has asked us to donate $100 to cover utilities, etc. Cindy Vogel will bring and donate a basket to raffle, with the proceeds going to the church. There may also be other baskets and other items to raffle.
• The church has an annual Christmas Bazar and asked us to knit wash cloths to be part of their fundraising raffle. Marie offered to bring a book of patterns to the next meeting.

Fundraising
• We need ideas for fundraising!
• Evelyn Van Orden is willing to teach people to knit and crochet jewelry.
• Jerri asked if we can have business cards to give out. Evelyn has a master that we can use to print for ourselves.
• We should bring fliers for our different projects and samples of knitted/crocheted items.

Yarn Crawl

• The 2nd Annual Yarn Crawl will be held Thursday-Sunday, April 11-14 at 32 shops in Los Angeles County.
• It sounds like a fun opportunity to visit many Local Yarn Shops (LYS) and get to know the types of yarns the stores carry (among other things).
• Sign up at our sponsor shops Itza Knitterie or Needle in a Haystack or online at www.yarncrawlla.com.
