1. A few members recapped the NICU tour given in January by Kimberly Smith. Judy Gregory and others said how interesting and inspiring it was and how nice it was to get the personal and direct connection with an organization to which we are giving so many donations. Kimberly has been a NICU nurse for 19 years, and our members were so impressed by her information and by the dedication and hard work of Kimberly and all the nurses there. Thank you so much again to Kimberly for the tour! She will schedule another tour in a few months. 2 . Deborah Kac told us that KnitPics has on their website a series of knitting podcasts. Each one is 10-15 minutes long and can be listened to in ones car or at home or wherever...http://www.knitpics.com . 3 . Needle in a Haystack is collecting homemade items for Knit for the Cure through March 7. Race for the Cure and Knit for the Cure will be held on Sunday, March 15, at Dodger Stadium. Knit for the Cure benefits the L.A. County Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. 4 . Judy Gregory reported that Kraemer Yarn Co., which supplies much of our charity yarn, now has ads in many of the knitting magazines.
5 . Heather Martin told us that she found a great book called Book of Wool by Clara Parks, which describes felting and gives many tips.
6 . Evelyn asked anyone who would like to give a short program or demonstration of a knitting/crocheting skill or technique or has information to pass on please let her know. 7 . For our meeting for April 7, please bring one or more books or magazines to share and tell whether you like it or hate it and why. We will make a list and post it on the website. E. Philanthropy Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy 1. Judy sent a box of things to Afghans for Afghanistan containing items for older kids, ages 6 14. She was able to include some small socks and afghans as well. She sent 13 socks and 3 afghans. She is storing smaller items to send in future boxes. If you are continuing to make wool things, they should be at least 75% wool, worsted weight. 2. Cathy Wacker took our hats and scarves donations to a homeless shelter for women. She and her church fed 150 one day at the shelter. The women were very happy for the knitted items. 3.
