Minutes:
    7:10 pm: Meeting Called to Order   Evelyn Van Orden, President    13 members and 3 visitors/new members were present.
    A. Approval of Minutes    Marsha Stoddard, Secretary
        1. Minutes of the November 3 General Meeting and December 1 Holiday Potluck Party were posted on the website and a hardcopy provided at the meeting. They were approved.
    B. Thanks for Treats    Cathy Wacker, Hospitality
        1. Cathy thanked Janice Ogata and Deborah Kac for the yummy treats.
    C. Treasurer's Report    Jerri Nicol, Treasurer
        1. Evelyn reported that the balance in our treasury is now $914.24, including interest accrued in recent years (about 11 cents per month). Our group never collects dues.
    D. Announcements    Members

        1. Judy Gregory and Evelyn each have new patterns on the Kraemer yarn website. Judy mentioned several patterns that are particularly well-written, including a father/son sweater and a crocheted watch cap.
        2. Evelyn brought some yarn donated by some of her students. She also has updated the JCK brochure.
        3. There are pictures of our holiday party both on the website and in Evelyn’s January meeting reminder.
        4. Sue Dietel will arrange a display of items made for our various charities in a case at the La Canada Library for the month of February. She collected a number of items to use, including some that were on display at the Eagle Rock Library in December. She will return them to us at the March meeting. Thank you for all your efforts, Sue.
        5. Judy is attending the TNNA trade show in Long Beach this weekend and will give a talk at the February meeting about the yarns there and the new ideas she picked up.
        6. Evelyn informed us that Jody Budman’s mother passed away this week. Jody owns Needle in a Haystack and has been helpful to JCK and some of our members. Marsha will send a card.
    E. Philanthropy    Judy Gregory, VP Philanthropy
        1. Judy announced that Afghans for Afghanistan will be sending items in January for children aged 7 – 14, such as vests, hats, sweaters, socks, and blankets. These items should be wool only.
        2. Becky Goodman thanked all those who made a hat for her mom, who is undergoing chemotherapy. She received 8 hats.
        3. Cathy W. informed us that, through the Pasadena Ecumenical Council, various local churches sponsor food for homeless families at the homeless shelter in Pasadena run by Covenant Church. She also takes them scarves and hats.
        4. Cathy also announced that an Indian Reservation has requested yarn so they can teach their kids to knit. The address is Holbrook Indian School, PO Box 910, Holbrook, AZ 86025-09l0.
        5. Jerri Thomson has delivered 6 caps donated by our group in January to Knots of Love. She also thanked everyone who contributed to the display she set up at the Eagle Rock Library. She announced that Knots of Love went over the 72,000 hat delivered since they began this project 3 years ago. Their website has a list of acceptable yarns and suggestions for hat patterns.
        6. Jerri also announced that David, the owner of That Yarn Shop before it closed, sent an email about a new knitting group forming at Heritage Square on Saturday, January 8. Jerri also attended a Christ Child Society meeting where they packed big bags of baby layette things for needy women. These bags all include a handmade item. She was very impressed with their efforts and enjoyed herself at the meeting. Betty Molinaro has details on the meeting times and places.
        7. Lynne Emery informed us that 245 cats were found in a warehouse in Pasadena, being fed by a homeless woman. The Pasadena Humane Society now has them for a required 6-month period before they can be adopted. They will accept any kind of blankets (knit, fleece, towels, etc.) of any size to keep the cats warm this winter. The address there is 361 S. Raymond in Pasadena. She or Sue Dietel will deliver them, as well.
